Privacy Policy

What we collect

Vigil collects information you provide when logging your pet's health data, including glucose readings, insulin doses, food and water intake, energy levels, symptoms, notes, weight, body condition observations, condition-specific fields (e.g. seizure duration, mucous membrane color), upcoming appointments, and any photos or videos you attach. We also collect your email address, your local timezone, and your phone number if you choose to enable SMS logging. We store the AI-generated summaries we produce from your data.

How we use it

Your pet's health data is used solely to display your pet's health history, generate pre-visit summaries for your veterinarian, and produce PDF reports. We do not sell or share your data with third parties except your enrolled veterinarian and the service providers listed below.

SMS messaging

If you opt in to SMS logging, your phone number is used to identify your pet when you send log entries by text message, and to send you reminder messages (typically 1–3 per week, depending on your reminder preferences) such as log reminders, condition check-ins, appointment reminders, and weekly summaries. Message and data rates may apply. You can opt out at any time from your dashboard or by replying STOP. We use Twilio to process SMS and MMS messages, and we retain a record of inbound and outbound messages for delivery confirmation and compliance audit.

Data storage and international transfers

Your data is stored securely using Supabase. Photos and videos are stored in private cloud storage and are only accessible to you and your enrolled veterinarian via time-limited signed links. Vigil's service providers (Supabase, Vercel, Anthropic, Twilio, Resend, PostHog, Sentry) operate primarily in the United States, so if you access Vigil from outside the US your data is transferred to and processed in the US.

Cookies and analytics

Vigil uses two categories of cookies and similar technologies:

  • Strictly necessary (always on). A session cookie set by Supabase keeps you signed in. Without it you cannot use the app. This cookie does not require consent.
  • Optional analytics. With your consent we use PostHog to understand how the app is used (which pages, which features) so we can improve it. PostHog receives anonymous interaction events only — it does not receive your pet's health data, photos, videos, or notes. You can accept or decline analytics from the banner shown on your first visit, or change your choice at any time by clearing site data for the Vigil domain in your browser.

We use Sentry to monitor errors and performance. Sentry stores a small amount of diagnostic information in your browser's session storage; it does not set tracking cookies. We do not use any advertising or marketing cookies.

Service providers

Vigil shares the minimum data required with the following service providers to deliver the product:

  • Supabase — authentication, database, file storage.
  • Anthropic — generating pre-visit summaries and parsing SMS log entries.
  • Twilio — sending and receiving SMS / MMS messages.
  • Resend — sending transactional and reminder email.
  • Vercel — hosting and content delivery.
  • PostHog — optional product analytics (only with consent).
  • Sentry — error monitoring and performance diagnostics.

AI features

Vigil uses Anthropic's Claude to generate the AI summaries shown on your dashboard and your veterinarian's portal, to produce pre-visit briefs and weekly emails, and to parse free-text SMS log entries. Structured log data and notes are sent to Anthropic's API for these purposes; photos and videos are not. Anthropic's use of the data is subject to Anthropic's privacy policy.

Your rights

You can:

  • Access your data. Download a complete machine-readable copy of everything we hold about you and your pets via the “Download my data” link on your dashboard.
  • Correct your data. Edit pet profiles, log entries, and account details directly in the app.
  • Delete your account. Use “Delete my account” on your dashboard to permanently remove your account, your pets' profiles, log entries, summaries, photos, and videos.
  • Revoke SMS consent. Disable SMS logging from your dashboard or reply STOP to any Vigil SMS.

For legal compliance, two narrow categories of data survive account deletion in anonymized or pseudonymized form: (1) SMS consent grants and revocations, retained as a phone-keyed evidentiary record under the federal Telephone Consumer Protection Act, and (2) outbound SMS and email delivery logs, with the user reference cleared. We retain a brief audit log of when veterinary users view your records while your account is active.
