Acceptance of terms
These terms are an agreement between you and Vigil LLC, a Massachusetts limited liability company (“Vigil”, “we”). By creating an account or using Vigil, you agree to these Terms of Service and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the service.
Description of service
Vigil is a health tracking platform for pets with chronic conditions, including diabetes, allergies, arthritis, IBD, IMHA, seizures, and weight management. It allows pet owners to log health data, generate reports, and share records with veterinary professionals. Veterinary accounts allow practitioners to view enrolled patients' records and to send messages to enrolled patients' owners through the platform, delivered by text message or email. Participating practices may also have a dedicated Vigil text line; entries texted to it by practice staff become part of the patient's record and are attributed to the practice.
Not medical advice
Vigil is an informational tool only. Nothing on this platform constitutes veterinary medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. AI-generated summaries are intended to assist communication with your veterinarian and should not be used as a substitute for professional veterinary judgment. All clinical decisions should be made by a licensed veterinarian.
Alerts and reminders
Vigil can send alert and reminder notifications by text message or email. Alerts are informational: they are generated from the data owners choose to submit, evaluated against thresholds configured by the veterinary practice, and delivered on a best-effort basis. Vigil is not a monitoring or emergency service, and we do not guarantee that any notification will be generated, delivered, or read in a timely manner. If your pet needs urgent care, contact your veterinarian or an emergency clinic directly.
Your account
You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account credentials. You must provide accurate information when creating an account. You may not share your account with others or create accounts on behalf of others without their consent.
Your data
You retain ownership of all health data, photos, and videos you upload to Vigil. By using the service, you grant us a limited license to store, process, and display your data as necessary to provide the service. When you share records with a veterinary practice, you authorize them to view that data until you revoke access.
Veterinary accounts
Veterinary users must be licensed veterinary professionals or authorized staff. Veterinary accounts may view patient records, and contact the owners of those patients through the platform, only for pets enrolled at their practice. Messages sent this way are attributed to the sending practice and are not a substitute for emergency communication. Access to patient data is governed by the pet owner, who may revoke it at any time; owners can stop vet text messages at any time by replying STOP.
Fees
Vigil is free for pet owners. Veterinary practices may be charged subscription fees under the agreement between the practice and Vigil, which governs pricing, billing, and any free or trial period. We will give practices reasonable advance notice of any change to their fees. Failure to pay does not affect an owner's access to their own pet's data.
If Vigil discontinues the service
If Vigil discontinues the service, veterinary practices will receive at least 30 days' notice and, on request, a complete export of their patients' records in standard formats before the service ends. Practices can also export their records at any time from the practice dashboard. Pet owners keep access to their own data as described above.
Acceptable use
You may not use Vigil to upload illegal, harmful, or offensive content. You may not attempt to access other users' accounts or data. You may not use automated tools to scrape or extract data from the platform. We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms.
Account deletion
You may delete your account at any time from your dashboard. Deletion is permanent and removes all associated data including pet profiles, health records, photos, and videos. Veterinary access to your pets' records will be revoked immediately upon account deletion.
Limitation of liability
Vigil is provided “as is” without warranties of any kind. We are not liable for any damages arising from your use of the service, including but not limited to decisions made based on data or summaries provided by the platform. In no event shall our liability exceed the amount you have paid for the service.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Massachusetts, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute arising from these terms or the service will be brought in the state or federal courts located in Massachusetts, and you consent to their jurisdiction.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. Continued use of Vigil after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated terms. We will indicate the date of the most recent revision at the top of this page.
